Podcast Episode 71 - The History of the Road Up Pikes Peak

With the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb happening this weekend, I thought I’d put together an episode about the history of the road up to the peak.

Several businesses operated coaches that took tourists up the Pike’s Peak Carriage Road to the summit. The Hundley Stage Line also transported travelers between Coloorado Springs and the Cripple Creek Gold District.

W. B. Felker, one of the men who claimed to be the first to ascend the Pikes Peak Carriage Road by automobile.

A carriage passes through the rocks at the base of the W. This photo was taken in 1894. Borrowed from the Pikes Peak Library District Digital Collection. Click on the picture to be taken to the source page.
